Lovely in Lilac

Despite the fickle weather, we're desperately trying to incorporate spring colors into our wardrobe. One of our favorite shades for the spring is lilac (or violet... we don't really know the difference). It's fresh and sweet, and can really brighten up your wardrobe. Ignore the weather, and add some spring to your step!

We call this dress the "Sexy Easter" dress. This two-tone color block dress from American Apparel is an ideal look for the spring. May we suggest a cropped black blazer to give this a retro 80s feel?

Don't have much uses for tight, sexy pastel numbers? Then try this grey / lavender skirt from The Limited. It's a professional but feminine, and is a great way to freshen up your wardrobe.

With all this rain we've been getting, you need to protect your tootsies! Grab a pair of these short rainboots by Ilse Jacobsen and you'll be singing in the rain! Oh, and did we mention they have fleece lining?

This sleeveless tea dress from Top Shop is perfect for work or play. Add a fitted blazer and pearls and you're set for work, or throw on a pair of gold hoops and strappy sandals and you're ready for a hot night on the town.

Tired of the regular old smokey eye? Add a pop of color with the purple smokey eye set from Sephora.  It will be sultry and romantic, just what you need for perfect "come hither" eyes.

Every girl needs a versatile dress that can be work at the park, out to dinner, for a garden party, whatever! This tiered ruffle dress from Old Navy definitely fits the bill, and will guarantee you a few compliments.

These lilac pumps are a must have this spring. They will look wonderful with a light gray suit, white dress, or black capris. We would steer away from pairing the pumps with a matching lilac dress and / or blouse. The most matchy-matchy we would do is matching jewelry, and even that's pushing it!

Color Day Themes: New Orleans Love

So, we're a little late, but we figured a Mardi Gras theme would be appropriate for this week's color day.  The festivities may have ended with the start of the Lenten season today, but that doesn't meant that you can't incorporate a similar theme into your party or event any time this year.  Carnival or Mardi Gras themes are festive and fun so break out the beads, put on your mask, crank up that jazz and bring and little of "The Big Easy" to your event.

Color Day: Visions of Sugar Plums

Today's inspiration board is based on the most popular ballet of the season, The Nutcracker. The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy is a classic and reminds us of childhood dreams of becoming ballerinas.  While we may not be actual dancers these days we can still dress up in frilly clothes, pull our hair into a bun, and show the world that we'll always be prima ballerinas at heart.

Color Day: Plum, Raisin, and Chocolate

Smooth, velvety chocolate... ripe, juicy plums...sweet, delicious raisins...have we got you salivating yet? Well, unfortunately for you we're not talking food here but at least we can provide a little eye candy.  This palette of chocolate brown, plum, and raisin is a lovely color combination for a modern fall wedding. It's gives a totally different feel then the usual "warm" fall colors like marigold, orange, and red, but still is cozy and comforting, just as fall should be. Purple is increasingly popular for weddings, decor, and wardrobes and, when paired up with rich chocolate brown, it's extremely charming and feminine.

Color Day: Black and Purple

Jen's back from vacation, and just in time for this week's color day!  Let's dig a little deeper into the holiday of the season and explore some excellent color combinations for Halloween themed or Gothic style weddings or parties.  Of course we'll do the traditional orange and black in the upcoming weeks, but before we get to that, we figured we could show you some other takes on Halloween that are sure to create a dark and down right spooky kind of event.  Orange isn't for everyone.  So if you love Halloween but sunshine orange makes you cringe, don't fret.  Purple is sexy and classy enough for the modern bride, but creepy and eerie enough to take the phrase "til death" to a whole new level.

Rubies, Sapphires, and Emeralds, oh my! Jewel tones have a unique ability to add a sense of luxury and passion to any space, wardrobe, etc. Can't decide which to use?  Use them all! These regal shades flow together and compliment each other so nicely to create a sexy, sultry, naturally glamorous atmosphere. We think this rich and luxurious looking ensemble, inspired by your favorite gemstones, is fit for a queen and certainly for any Fall wedding or event.

And, PS - Can you believe this is our 100th post!?

Oh, how the time flies! It totally snuck up on us and we didn't even have a chance to prepare a speech or celebratory photo montage.

Anyway, in the next few weeks you can look forward to some fresh posts on Fall fashion and accessories, all sorts of back to school necessities, and, of course more inspiring color days, themes, and weddings!

We love writing for you and we thank you, so very much, for reading.

Here's to the next 100!

Spring Flowers: Tulips

Here is our first of many floral inspirations.  One of the most common flowers that come to mind when you think of spring is the tulip. They are a beautiful spring flower and come in a variety of bright, fun colors as well as the traditional white. With long stems and simple blossoms they are the perfect flower for any modern springtime fete. Here are some great bouquets and centerpiece that feature tulips:

This centerpiece from www.weddingbycolor.com is a beautiful and elegant display of this spring flower.  These tulips have their stems cut short to create a low centerpiece and are loosely placed in the vase to give them that "just picked from the garden" look. The off-white tulip is a classic, clean and romantic choice for a modern, formal affair.

Here we have a modern spring bouquet featuring white tulips. The long stems and single flower design make this very modern and minimalistic and the flowers themselves have a look that is very clean and bright! Plus, we love the contrast of the black ribbon!

We are in love with these gorgeous purple tulips (and the cute favor box!).  This is another great choice for the modern spring wedding.  First of all, the shades of purple and glowing candles are beautiful and the centerpiece looks great with the contrast of the bright green stems!  But, what we are really enjoying is the height of these flowers and the square vase they are placed in - it creates great drama!  This is one wedding we would have loved to attend!!

Looking for something a little more on the frilly, girly-girl, traditional side?  Then we would suggest something like this pale pink bouquet of parrot tulip. Parrot tulips have kind of ruffly looking petals, as opposed to the very smooth petals of regular tulips, which is what gives this bouquet its light and feathery look.

This vibrant bouquet of tulips paired with cala lilies would be perfect for a fun and unique spring wedding.  The long stems are beautiful and elegant, but this bouquet is a bit more casual as it has that loose stems and casually tied bow.  The bright pop of the cheery yellow and bold orange is sure to be a show stopper!
